QuNi41 TIG Filler Wire – Cast Iron NiFe, GJS / GGG & Grey Iron (EN ISO 1071 S C NiFe)

QuNi41 is a NiFe filler metal (approx. 59 % nickel, balance iron) for welding and repairing cast iron — to EN ISO 1071: S C NiFe (material ~2.4560). It suits ferritic and austenitic ductile cast iron (GJS / GGG, nodular iron) as well as build-up welding on grey iron (GJL / GG). Decisive in practice: the weld metal is work-hardening, machinable, polishable and chrome-platable — the repaired area can be finished just like the base material.

Recommended base materials

  • GJS (GGG) — ductile / nodular cast iron, ferritic and austenitic
  • GJL (GG) — grey cast iron (build-up welding)
  • Other common cast iron grades
  • Dissimilar joints with unalloyed and high-alloy steel, copper and nickel alloys

Typical applications

  • Tool and mould repair — finishing by machining, polishing and chrome plating possible
  • GGG valves and pump housings — repair of cast components
  • Build-up and joining welds on ductile cast iron (GJS/GGG)
  • Build-up welding on grey iron grades (GJL/GG)
  • Dissimilar joints cast iron ↔ steel, copper, nickel alloys
  • Corrosion-resistant cladding

Properties and advantages

  • Finishable: work-hardening, machinable, polishable, chrome-platable
  • NiFe weld metal absorbs carbon from the cast iron without becoming brittle
  • Suitable for ferritic and austenitic nodular iron
  • Also for dissimilar joints to steel, copper and nickel alloys
  • Mechanical properties (pure weld metal, 20 °C): Re 300 MPa | Rm 500 MPa

TIG advantage: For larger build-up areas and cast iron repairs away from the laser — Ø 1.0 mm, rod length 1,000 mm. Preheat the casting and let it cool slowly to avoid hardening in the heat-affected zone.

TIG form: for manual repair welding.
