Qu4842 is the heat-resistant 25-20 austenite: EN ISO 14343-A G/W 25 20 · AWS ER310 · filler no. 1.4842. Cr 25 % · Ni 20 %.
The weld metal is fully austenitic and scale resistant up to 1200 °C — while remaining tough down to −196 °C. It is the first choice under attack from oxidising, nitrogen-bearing and oxygen-poor gases and for joints on heat-resistant Cr-Si-Al steels in sulphurous gases. Important: avoid the range 605–900 °C — embrittlement can occur there.
