Qu17-4PH Rod – Laser Welding Wire 1.4542 / 17-4PH (X5CrNiCuNb16-4 / AISI 630)
Qu17-4PH is a precipitation-hardening, corrosion-resistant laser welding wire of the alloy 17-4PH (material 1.4542 / X5CrNiCuNb16-4, AISI 630). This martensitic chromium-nickel-copper steel combines high strength with good corrosion resistance — ideal for repair and build-up welding in tool and mould making as well as on pump, valve and shaft components.
Recommended base materials
- 1.4542 — X5CrNiCuNb16-4 / 17-4PH / AISI 630 (primary material)
- 1.4540 — X4CrNiCuNb16-4 (identical-type variant)
- 1.4548 — X5CrNiCuNb17-4 (identical-type variant)
Typical applications
- Tool and mould making — repair and build-up welding
- Pump, valve and fitting components
- Shafts, axles and highly stressed machine parts
- Offshore, chemical and food technology
- Aerospace components
Properties and advantages
- Precipitation-hardening (Cu/Nb) — high strength through ageing (heat-treatment conditions H900/H1025/H1150)
- Achievable hardness 37–40 HRC per manufacturer datasheet
- Good corrosion resistance at high mechanical load capacity
- Identical-type weld metal for durable, low-crack joints
- Shielding gas: argon 4.6 or better; adapt heat control to the aged condition of the component
Rod form advantage: Ideal for manual build-up welding with constant wire feed — also for repair sites that are hard to access in tools and moulds.
Rod form: Rod lengths 1000 mm and 333 mm, Ø 0,2 mm – 0,6 mm.
