QuNi36 is Invar: a binary iron-nickel alloy (material no. 1.3990 / ~1.3912, UNS K93600, known as INVAR36® and NILO36®) with an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion between −250 °C and 200 °C, combined with good ductility and toughness.
That property is delicate: it depends on the carbon and manganese content and on the absence of other impurities. The purity of the filler is therefore no formality here — the wrong wire destroys exactly the property the component was made of Invar for.

Properties and advantages
- Extremely low thermal expansion between −250 °C and 200 °C

- Cold forming lowers the expansion further
- A staged heat treatment stabilises the expansion coefficient within the desired temperature window
