QuAlX10 Bobbin – Laser Welding Wire Aluminium AlSi10Cu4 / AL4145 – Polishable, Bright Weld Metal

QuAlX10 Bobbin – Laser Welding Wire Aluminium AlSi10Cu4 / AL4145 – Polishable, Bright Weld Metal

QuAlX10 is the naturally ageing AlSi alloy with copper: AWS A5.10 AL4145 · EN ISO 18273 AL4145 (AlSi10Cu4).

What makes it interesting in mould making is the surface: the datasheet cites bright weld metal, little sooting and very good polishability at high strength and crack resistance. The low melting point and good flow (Si 10 %) also make it forgiving to process — the combination needed on aluminium moulds and castings that remain visible afterwards.

Recommended base materials

  • Joints and build-ups on aluminium wrought alloys (AlMgCuZn…)
  • Casting alloys AlSiMg…
  • AlSiCu — e.g. AL2014, AL2036, AL2219

Typical applications

  • Aluminium mould making
  • Components with a polished visible surface
  • Repairs on aluminium castings and wrought alloys

Properties and advantages

  • Polishes very well, bright weld metal
  • Little sooting
  • Naturally ageing, low melting point, good flow
