QuNi36 Rod – Laser Welding Wire Invar 36 / 1.3990 (FeNi36) – Minimal Thermal Expansion

QuNi36 Rod – Laser Welding Wire Invar 36 / 1.3990 (FeNi36) – Minimal Thermal Expansion

QuNi36 is Invar: a binary iron-nickel alloy (material no. 1.3990 / ~1.3912, UNS K93600, known as INVAR36® and NILO36®) with an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion between −250 °C and 200 °C, combined with good ductility and toughness.

That property is delicate: it depends on the carbon and manganese content and on the absence of other impurities. The purity of the filler is therefore no formality here — the wrong wire destroys exactly the property the component was made of Invar for.

Recommended base materials

  • 1.3990 / 1.3912 (FeNi36)
  • INVAR36®, NILO36® and comparable Invar grades
  • UNS K93600

Typical applications

  • Moulds for CFRP parts (aerospace)
  • Measuring and control instruments, e.g. thermostats
  • Plants for liquefied gases (production, storage, transport)
  • Satellite construction — frames, brackets, housings for control units
  • Bushings for bolted joints between metals of differing expansion

Properties and advantages

  • Extremely low thermal expansion between −250 °C and 200 °C
  • Good ductility and toughness despite the special alloy
  • Cold forming lowers the expansion further
  • A staged heat treatment stabilises the expansion coefficient within the desired temperature window
  • Weld metal: Re 270 MPa · Rm 490 MPa

Rod form advantage: Constant wire feed for manual rework on large CFRP moulds.

Rod form: Rod lengths 1000 mm and 333 mm, Ø 0,2 mm – 0,8 mm.
