Qu4370 Rod – Laser Welding Wire ER307 / 18 8 Mn (1.4370) for Manganese Steel

Qu4370 Rod – Laser Welding Wire ER307 / 18 8 Mn (1.4370) for Manganese Steel

Qu4370 is a manganese-alloyed filler metal to EN ISO 14343-A G/W 18 8 Mn · AWS SFA-5.9 ER307 (material no. 1.4370). The high manganese content of roughly 7 % produces an austenitic weld metal that is work-hardening: it goes into the seam soft and only hardens under load — from around 180 HB as welded to about 41 HRC after work-hardening.

That makes Qu4370 the wire for manganese steel and for joints that make other fillers crack: austenite-to-ferrite joints, armour steels, and heat-resistant Cr and CrNi steels.

What {code} is made for

  • Manganese steels — joint and build-up welding
  • Austenite-to-ferrite joints up to 300 °C service temperature
  • Heat-resistant Cr and CrNi steels, e.g. in exhaust system manufacturing
  • Armour steels
  • Identical-type steels as well as buffer layers and build-ups

Typical applications

  • Repairs to manganese steel components (crusher jaws, railway points, wear plates)
  • Buffer layers and build-ups with wear-resistant, work-hardening weld metal
  • Joints between austenitic and ferritic steels
  • Components in exhaust system manufacturing (scale-resistant to approx. 850 °C)
  • Components in contact with sea water or dilute acids

Properties and advantages

  • Work-hardening — approx. 180 HB as welded, approx. 41 HRC after work-hardening: the seam hardens exactly where it is loaded
  • Scale-resistant to approx. 850 °C
  • Resistant to sea water and dilute acids; stainless
  • Wear-resistant — very good for buffer layers and build-ups
  • Weld metal: Re 400 MPa · Rm 650 MPa · A 35 %
  • Limit: not sufficiently resistant to sulphurous gases above 500 °C

Rod form advantage: Ideal for manual build-up welding with constant wire feed — also when laying buffer layers on large wear components.

Rod form: Rod lengths 1000 mm and 333 mm, Ø 0,3 mm – 0,6 mm.
